Sherlock Holmes poster analysis

The variety of posters available for this film lie mainly with a corresponding theme; however have slight alteration in which content is presented. The more of an array of posters available creates a further viral market which generates more of an awareness of the film. Having a large arrangement of posters will help determine the audience to not get disinterested of seeing a reoccurring poster over and over which causes it to be more interesting.
The scheme remains as cold, dull colours in the background with a classical vintage overlay to portray a nefarious essence to the time which assists to the main theme. The fore ground concludes of more enticing, bold and rich colours to grab attention to the prime focus, the main characters. The major character of this film is the renowned star Robert Downey Junior, they make his partition in the film prominent by putting his name in the top left hand corner and having him portrayed clearly in the middle. By having a distinguished actor in the movie will establish a larger fan base which will produce an expanded audience so therefore a more preferable profit.

Robert Downey Junior and Jude Laws attire represents the time in which the film was set. The top hat, whip, leather gloves and classical suits all add to the allure of the characters and the essence of the film. “Christmas day” does not fit with the colour scheme to the rest of the poster, it is deep red so it contrasts to the background that is a variety of blues thus making it more distinct. This attracts more attention so people know what to focus on. “Holmes for the holiday” is a play on words and adds light humour to the poster. This proposes that the film itself will have a comedic side therefore influencing the audience to watch the film.
