At the beginning we see the main character which is a female relating to the female being weak and helpless in dangerous situations. we also see that she is bound to a wheel chair with a broken legs making her seem even more helpless, perhaps making the audience feeling sorry for her.                      at this point in time we see that the female character is the main character due to the amount of screen time she is getting. The dark lighting in and flashlights can be an genre indicator, the girl home alone in her bedroom is also a genre indicator as its a classic scene setting in horror films.  

location ideas

At the moment we are having troubles with finding a suitable location for the film we are wanting to do. we wanted to use an abandoned asylum but we have recently found out that it has been destroyed.  Our whole film depends on our location as we need a earey place that a ghostly figure will be present in. We have found this location in the picture of a abandoned house that we could use. I will be checking out this house today (20/10/2014) to see if we can use it. if the location is inaccessible we will have to change our whole movie idea.

I have checked out the location and everything is boarded up and i have seen some cameras in the corners outside of the house. there is a jump-able wall for us to jump over and explore more.  the whole houses seems derelict and empty so it shouldn't be a problem. on Wednesday (22/10/2014) i am bringing a few other people to explore more and actually gain access to the building.

The house was completely boarded up and cameras were surrounding the house, we looked inside and was able to pull a panel off, but decided to leave this location as it was hard to access and most probably against the law.

Horror paractise shots with Gopro

This video shows some practise shots we have taken, we think these shots were very effective and we plan to use several of these shots in our film. The first shot of the zooming in we think can act as maybe a jump scare, as someone could hide behind the door and pop out into view of the camera, this would jump the audience and at night there would be a torch adding to the tension as the camera approached the door. The second shot was a practice to see how effective the GoPro was in the dark, the door slamming shows how quickly the camera can transition between light and dark and it also provides us with a light we can use. The third shot is one of the most effective shots, this because the sheet we were using to make this effect made it appear no one was behind the sheet and it is also obscuring the area behind the sheet making it perfect for the antagonist to hide behind and in the dark it could be very effective to use as a jump scare, as seen at the 20-23 second mark. The final shot we can see using in our trailer as one of the characters run into a closet or cupboard, the idea would be the lights would turn off and then come back on and maybe books would have fallen off the shelf or there would be a character appearing behind the camera.

What camera we are using?

 This is the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition. This is the camera we will be using for our film, having this camera is a massive improvement from last year. The quality of the GoPro is very good, also it has a wide lens which enables it to capture more of what it happening. I feel that the improvement in camera quality will massively benefit us when filming the trailer.

When we are filming, most of our shots will be point of view shots. We want to have a similar style to the movies Paranormal Activity and Grave encounters. These films are almost filmed like a vlog, we feel that this is the best way to film our trailer. The quality of this camera has improved to 1080p which will make it allot smoother to watch, the camera also comes with; wide, medium and narrow shots to give us a variety of shot types we can do. There is also a free editing software that comes with the go pro which will make it easier for us to edit and put certain effects on.  

Movie Ideas

For our movie idea we are wanting to have a trailer like Grave Encounters 2. we are thinking about having the film filmed like a video blog so the movie will look real.  the audience will be able to see the film through the main actors point of view making them feel a part of the film. this will look like when something scary happens the audience will have the same reaction as the character within the film.

We have been currently looking at locations to film our trailer we have 3 ideas for where we want to do it. one of which is a abandoned mental asylum in Epsom called west park hospital. this is our first choice location as it is the closest and seems the scariest. there is one problem with this as we have heard rumors that the asylum has been demolished so we need to check it out. our second location
